There are many things to consider when designing a website. Not only do you want it updated to fit in with new technology but you also want it to be easily accessible to even the simplest of potential customers or clients. Some categories are more important that others when designing a website. Here are just a few key points to go over when designing your own website.
First off, one of the most important things to keep in mind while designing a website would have to be navigation. You want your website to be easily navigated through by having the proper titles such as: Home, About, FAQ, Services, Contact. Also it is really important to include your company logo. Not only is it an advertisement for your personal brand but it also helps the customer or client informed on what website they are on. Another helpful tip is to make sure you have navigation on the top and the footer of the website so that you don’t have to scroll all the way back to the top just to go to another portion of the website after reading one of the pages.
Another key element in designing a website would be the design itself. If you are marketing to teenagers or young adults you want it to have sort of a new age look to it so that it catches their attention. It all depends on what crowd you are going for but make sure it is designed to catch your targets attention. When trying to catch the attention of all crowds, simple and easy to use is always the best route to take.
A strong element in designing a website should also be the content. You want something that is going to grab the browsers interest. If trying to sell a product be sure to not oversell it. Make sure you information is true and from reliable sources. Be sure to try and teach the browser something new because that is one of the main attention grabbers.
I’d say the biggest mistake for companies with poor web design have to be their about and contact page. In the about page you want to let your customers or clients to know what your company or product is all about. Whether it be mission statements or a description of your product you must make sure all the information is factual and detailed. When it comes to the contact page, you must be sure you are able to understand and clearly read all the phone numbers, addresses and fax information in order to keep a good contact ratio.
The most important part of web design is keeping good statistics of where your customers are coming from and what pages they stay on the most. In order to maintain your website you need to know where your customers or clients are coming from and how they found your website. This helps in bringing in more clients or customers to your website.
Although these are only a few of the elements to look at when creating a website, they are the most important ones to look at. So when you begin to design a website make sure you look at the navigation, customer appeal, content, about/contact page, and statistics of it to ensure your success.
